The Plaza District is another Oklahoma City neighbourhood that rewards visitors who leave the main downtown attractions behind. It is compact, colourful and strongly associated with local restaurants, independent businesses, art and murals.
You do not need an elaborate itinerary here. The district works best when you wander, look at the street art and choose somewhere to eat or drink based on what appeals to you.
Small but full of personality
The Plaza is not physically large, which is part of its charm. Rather than spending half the day moving between distant attractions, you can explore the area on foot and settle into its atmosphere.
Murals and creative businesses give the district a visual identity, while restaurants and bars make late afternoon and evening particularly good times to visit.
Pair it with another neighbourhood
I would combine the Plaza District with Paseo, Midtown or another central area rather than making it your only destination for the day. Together, these neighbourhoods show a side of Oklahoma City that is easy to miss if you stay entirely in Bricktown.
The Plaza is a good example of why I like neighbourhood-based city guides. There may not be one world-famous landmark here, but spending a couple of hours in the district can tell you more about contemporary OKC than another generic attraction ever could.
