Asian District

Oklahoma City’s Asian District is one of the best reminders that the city’s identity extends far beyond Western imagery and steakhouse stereotypes. The area is particularly associated with the Vietnamese community, which grew significantly after the Vietnam War, but its restaurants and businesses reflect several Asian cultures.

For visitors, food is the obvious reason to come. Pho restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets and casual dining spots make this one of the most enjoyable neighbourhoods to explore when you are hungry.

Start with the food

If you have never tried Vietnamese food beyond a basic bowl of pho, this is a good place to explore further. Look for bánh mì, noodle dishes, rice plates and Vietnamese coffee as well as restaurants serving cuisines from elsewhere in Asia.

Asian supermarkets are worth visiting too, especially if you enjoy browsing ingredients and snacks that you may not encounter in ordinary American grocery stores.

A different Oklahoma City

The district is close enough to central Oklahoma City to fit easily into a visitor itinerary, but it feels distinct from downtown and Bricktown. I would combine it with nearby Paseo or Uptown rather than treating it as an isolated food stop.

Most importantly, come hungry. The Asian District is not a museum piece; it is a living neighbourhood, and eating is one of the best ways to experience it.
